New subscriber here! Just to say on sandwiches on the move in France, that the Patapain chain is much better than the indifferent service station fare. They also have decently designed interiors including armchair seating and different partitioned areas, so that you don't feel you're in a canteen. We've had some really good, freshly made sandwiches there. Unfortunately no use for your trip, as they're concentrated in the west /centre of France in a sort of triangle from Bordeaux across to Moulins and then back to Cholet. Handy if you're passing through the Cognac/Loire areas especially.

Inspired by this quinoa salad recipe, and had everything it needed (except sumac). Added a tbsp of styrian pumpkin seed oil, and the honey was from a garlic in honey ferment. It's delicious!

I love the sound of your journey! We used to regularly travel from mid Italy to Le Bar sur Loup, (above Nice, in the hills) to stay with my sister. I happily packed a picnic of lovely Italian deli treats, but either made my own bread or waited to buy bread from the first French service station we reached as it was a million times better than commercial Italian bread which is usually unsalted and rock hard.

Have a wonderful trip 🤗

Have a terrific time on your travels, your car feast sounds joyful. I enjoyed hands down the finest car picnic of my life in the back of a tiny old Citroen t’ween Carcassonne airport and the rural cottage we were staying. A sturdy basket of odds & ends had been hastily cobbled by the mother of the friend we were visiting and who collected us; I demolished roasted hens legs dunked in aioli & raw vegetables dragged through a pot of divine humous amongst other tasty treats that tasted like no other. Banana loaf dotted with damp walnuts fresh from her tree & milky fromage from her neighbouring farm. It’s a journey I would travel back in time to repeat in a heartbeat. :)
