Debra, I love spring flowers of all sorts. What a personality your entry has. And another recipe printed out. Thank you!

I realise last time I was in your area was in 1981, gulp, when I went with a friend on my French degree all the way by train from Aberdeen to Sète to visit Valéry's grave in the Cimitière Marin. Keen, eh?! Have just got your Notes From a Small Kitchen Island and am absolutely loving it as a "read" in addition to a recipe book.

I loved “ it will take as long as it takes” I shall try to use those words as my mantra in the coming weeks and not look to hard at my to do list x

"While we were gone, the warming days combined with some heavy rain brought spring galloping in..." was my favorite phrase in such beautiful post.

This: “In the meantime, there are flowers and the soft sea air and the light on the water.” Brought tears to my eyes. Such a simple, yet deeply lovely sentence.

Refreshing that someone acknowledges that pine nuts are wickedly expensive, rather than just casually tossing them into an ingredient list. Much appreciated, and makes me more likely to include them (carefully watched during the frying step!) when I try this very appealing recipe.

Your garden looks lovely!

Love this and have done something similar for a while - it’s so versatile. The greengrocer in our local market gave a good tip about washing spinach that is perhaps muddy rather than dusty or gritty: do the first couple of washes in tepid water as the mud then dissolves more easily. Maybe it’s just me that doesn’t already do this…😬

How lovely…we looked up Beziers to visit as a result of your post to discover that it’s an hour and a half flight from Bristol…dreaming immediately..you may or may not be happy to know what your writing has evoked and started…plus as a veggie I’ll be making your gratin this weekend and dream again

Look at that asparagus! Ours are (just starting) and in slightly diminished bunches for a HUGE amount of money.

They will come down in price, but meanwhile I’ll stare at yours.

Your garden pics are lovely, can almost feel the warmth of spring sunshine. I recommend perching on those steps, just taking in the moment.
